And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?Luke 18:7
Luke 18 shows us that it is God's desire that we should partner with Him to cry out day and night for "speedy justice". He is a God whose heart is set on justice.
"Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations"
In fact this is Jesus' mandate – to bring forth justice to the nations.
So what is justice? How will Jesus bring forth justice? And what is our part in it?
Justice is seeing what is wrong made right and that decision is made by the one who judges As Christians we know that Jesus is the Righteous Judge who will bring forth justice and righteousness in the earth. So justice is when a situation comes under the Lordship of Christ. When we pray for healing we are declaring God's judgement on sickness, when we pray for freedom we are declaring God's judgement on imprisonment or oppression, when we pray for provision we are declaring God's judgement on poverty. As we read the scriptures we see over and over again that God's desire is for righteousness and justice and we also see His heart for the poor and oppressed. This is the good news of the gospel.
"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;"
At New Forest House of Prayer we believe that God has ordained His kingdom to operate in conjunction with human participation. He will avenge our cries and bring speedy justice when we cry out day and night for that which is on His heart. Over the last few years we have become more and more convinced that we need to cry out day and night to see the power of God break through and bring justice to the earth.
In 2009 whilst at The Call international gathering of leaders at IHOP-KC we heard about the work of Exodus Cry and began to realise that God was raising up a company of praying abolitionists to bring an end to the injustice of human trafficking and the entrapment of women and children into a life of prostitution. We began to feel God calling us to take up this focus at NFHOP. In 2010 Helena Evans joined our house of prayer. Helena had firsthand experience of these issues having come out of a life of exploitation and features in the feature length documentary Nefarious: Merchant of Souls made by Exodus Cry. This was the "word from the Lord" that we should start a Justice prayer watch. In January 2011 we began praying into this issue every week and we have seen God expose crime rings and trafficking rings in our area and nation. Since then we have continued to pray into this and other areas where we need to see God’s justice prevail.
Justice is on God's heart and He is coming as the righteous Judge.
"Behold! My Servant…My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice ….He will not fail nor be discouraged, till He has established justice in the earth;"
Jesus is looking for those who will partner with Him to bring justice for the vulnerable, the abused, the persecuted and the oppressed. Hundreds of thousands of men, women and children face a horrific reality every day of their lives often losing all hope. But if the church learns the truth and responds through prayer for justice and acts of justice, there is hope - His name is Jesus.
