Isaiah 53:10 - God's accounting system and hearts for Jesus

knowledgeAll humans have a longing to "know". This longing has been placed within us by the uncreated God before we came into any physical being. So, it is not unnatural for us to be inquisitive about who we are, how we got here and why we are here. We have an enemy, no gentleman, who is scheming to answer those questions in a way that leads us away from God and towards self destruction. He doesn't even need to be particularly present in our lives, he just needs to sow the seeds of "self". As we look to "self" to come up with answers and blame all wrongdoing on Satan, circumstance or others, he has us ensnared, trapped.

The first 25 years of my life I searched for the answers to these questions in all the wrong places; every aspect of my identity was marginalised which, in turn, led me into trouble. For the second 25 years of my life, I sought Him out, asked Him for wisdom and revelation and enjoyed His presence. This included the "south wind" blessings of healing, deliverance, growing in the gifts of the Spirit, and the privilege of introducing the lost to Him, along with many "north wind" trials to overcome.

Authority is found in Intimacy

strength lies in intimacyLuke 10:38-42 This familiar story tells of Jesus visiting Martha's house where she lives with her sister Mary, and her brother Lazarus. It is evident that Jesus enjoys their company. Martha is the one who demonstrates the life of ministry and service and during Jesus' visit she is so engaged in serving that she is actually distracted by it. She is right in that there were many "preparations that had to be made"  and she gives herself to those tasks with her customary vigor.

Mary is not being helpful to her sister, but is relaxed sitting at Jesus' feet focussing on what He has to say and enjoying friendly conversation.

If we just take a reality check here! - Jesus, the eternal word of the Father, the Word of God made flesh, is sitting in the front room of this family's home and He's in the mood to talk! We become so familiar with this kind of statement in the Bible that we can easily miss the power of it!

The one thing He desires is ours to give

How awesome that even though all things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, thrones, dominions, rulers and authorities, were created by Him and for Him, heart(Col 1:16) the one thing He desires and does not take without permission, is ours to give. Our hearts belong to us and we have the final say on who we give them to.

Despite being completely capable to overpower and command obedience, our amazing God prefers relationship and voluntary lovers. He respects our choice and even if it breaks His heart, He remains ever the gentleman. He will not force a decision for Him, from us, and as the perfect judge, will allow us to live out the consequences of whatever choices we make.

Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God..."

Saturday 25th October 2014

This well known scripture has been offered to me this week as a word from the Lord.

It's been my practice when reading, giving or mediating on this scripture, to focus on the "still" part. Being "still" is often a challenge amongst our busy culture and lifestyles.

However, this week in conversation with Jesus, I felt Him prompt me to focus on the "and KNOW" section. So, what does it mean to "KNOW"?
